§ 48. Mr. Willeyasked the Secretary of State for Trade whether, in view of the continued shortage of hotel accommodation in the Northern Region, he will reconsider the provisions for financial aid to hotel development.
§ Mr. DeakinsI have no evidence to suggest that there is an overall shortage of hotel accommodation in this area which 7W has already benefited from grants provided under the Hotel Development Incentive Scheme. Section 4 of the Development of Tourism Act enables the English Tourist Board to consider applications for assistance for hotel projects situated in development areas within the region.
§ Mr. Trotterasked the Secretary of State for Trade if he will take steps to provide financial assistance to the larger hotel development schemes in development areas on a scale at least equivalent to that formerly provided by the Hotel Development Incentive Scheme.
§ Mr. DeakinsI have nothing to add to the answer I gave to my hon. Friend the Member for Darlington (Mr. Fletcher) on 11th July 1974.
