HC Deb 10 July 1974 vol 876 c500W
Mr. Michael Latham

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food why he is not keeping records of the amount of subsidy paid on individual cheeses, in view of the fact that he is registering manufacturers and importers who are making specific, quantifiable claims in respect of each cheese; and how he keeps an accurate record of the total subsidy paid.

Mr. Buchan

Payment is made on the total quantity of all eligible cheeses for which subsidy is claimed on each application form. The total subsidy paid is the sum of these individual payments. Payments made to manufacturers are recorded separately. The possibility of assembling more detailed statistics is under consideration.

Mr. Michael Latham

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what is the total value of subsidy payments made on (a) United Kingdom produced cheese, and (b) imported cheeses since 19th June.

Mr. Buchan

Between 19th June and 5th July £1,232,782 had been paid on United Kingdom produced cheese and £572,256 on imported cheeses.
