HC Deb 09 July 1974 vol 876 cc408-9W
19. Mr. Michael Latham

asked the Secretary of State for Employment whether he will make a statement on the operation of the Training Opportunities Scheme.

Mr. Harold Walker

I have nothing to add to my hon. Friend's reply to my hon. Friend the Member for Glasgow, Maryhill (Mr. Craigen) on 17th May, 1974.—[Vol. 873, c.556.]

28. Mr. Willey

asked the Secretary of State for Employment whether he will make a statement on the operation of the Training Opportunities Scheme in the Northern Region.

Mr. Harold Walker

In 1973, the first full year of operation of the Training Opportunities Scheme, during which time my Department was directly responsible, 3,583 people were trained in Northern Region, compared with 1,765 in 1971 and 3,023 in 1972. I understand from the Manpower Services Commission that the Training Services Agency which is now responsible for the scheme proposes to continue the expansion of training facilities in the north, as elsewhere in the country.
