asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will increase the sum of £750,000 made available to the Arts Council to offset expenditure on VAT to a figure nearer to the Arts Council's assessment of £1.3 million.

No. The sum made available is a fair interpretation of the statement of the previous Government.
