HC Deb 08 July 1974 vol 876 c324W
32. Mr. Kenneth Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for Prices and Consumer Protection if she will seek to persuade supermarkets' associations to instruct their members to stop marking down some goods as loss leaders while maintaining higher prices than is necessary on other goods.

Mr. Maclennan

No, but the purpose of the voluntary agreement which my right hon. Friend has reached with the retail trades is that they should concentrate their promotional price cutting on goods of particular significance in the budgets of low income families.
