HC Deb 08 July 1974 vol 876 c379W
Mr. Ron Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he is aware that the National Bus Company, that operates services in the Carlisle area, has an application for bus fare increases; and, in view of the fact that bus fare increases have already been granted in 1974, if he will draw the matter to the attention of the Price Commission.

Mr. Mulley

Increases in bus fares are a matter for the Traffic Commissioners and I cannot intervene in their consideration of applications. The commissioners are statutorily required to have regard to the Price and Pay Code in fixing bus fares, and the code provides that these do not come within the jurisdiction of the Price Commission.
