Mr. Hill

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what was the average number of courses of National Health Service treatment completed per general dental practitioner in 1949 and in 1973 and the average cost of a course of treatment on a comparable basis.

Dr. Owen

In 1949 the average number of courses and cases of treatment per general dental practitioner in England and Wales was 798 and the average cost per estimate was £5.40. The figures for 1973 were 2,177 and £4.85.
