§ Mr. Bradleyasked the Secretary of State for the Environment what increases he has arranged or agreed for the United Kingdom share of the EEC Community road transport quotas; whether to achieve this there has been any change in the United Kingdom position on the proposed increased weight and dimension for heavy goods vehicles; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. MulleyThe Council of Ministers last week agreed to an increase of over 75 per cent., from 129 to 227 permits, for the remainder of this year. This welcome increase was not linked to any change in my attitude to larger or heavier lorries. I left the Council in no doubt that the Government remain firmly opposed to the EEC proposals on the weight and dimension of heavy goods vehicles.
