What is the number of buildings listed as being of architectural or historical interest which have been permitted to be demolished in each of the years since 1964.
§ BARONESS YOUNGUntil January 1, 1969, an owner of a listed building had only to give notice to the local planning authority if he proposed to demolish the building. No records were kept but it is estimated that some 400 listed buildings were lost in 1968. Since January 1, 1969, listed building consent has been required for demolition, and the figures for the subsequent years are as follows:

The figures for demolition must be considered against the yearly increase in the number of listed buildings. Their cumulative totals have been as follows:
