HC Deb 24 January 1974 vol 867 c311W
7. Mr. David Clark

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he is satisfied that the difference between the starting salary of direct entrants to the probation service and of professionally trained entrants is not damaging to morale within the service ; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Carlisle

I think the recent increases in the starting salaries of professionally qualified entrants have been generally welcomed as removing the disadvantages which the probation service has suffered in this respect. Any further proposals with regard to the starting salaries of direct entrants would be for examination by the joint negotiating committee in the first instance.
