HC Deb 24 January 1974 vol 867 c311W
23. Sir Charles Taylor

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will inquire to what extent police panda cars are to be reduced in number, and by how many ; and how many police constables and other officers are to be released in this way for foot patrol on the streets.

Mr. Carlisle

It must remain a matter for each chief officer of police to decide how best to use all the resources available to him to deal with the particular problems of each locality. The results of the inquiry suggested could not reflect the variety of local circumstances and arrangements and my right hon. Friend is not persuaded that there would be advantage in making it.
