HC Deb 09 January 1974 vol 867 cc6-7W
Mr. Coleman

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what are the average wages of male workers between the ages of 18 years and 20 years in Wales, and also the average wages of male workers of 21 years and over in Wales, for a normal working week.

Mr. Dudley Smith,

pursuant to his reply [OFFICIAL REPORT, 14th November 1973; Vol. 864, c. 186], gave the following information:

The relevant New Earnings Survey estimates of average gross weekly earnings excluding overtime earnings of employees in Wales are:

AVERAGE GROSS WEEKLY EARNINGS EXCLUDING OVERTIME EARNINGS IN APRIL 1973 OF FULLTIME MALE EMPLOYEES IN WALES WHOSE PAY FOR THE SURVEY PERIOD WAS NOT AFFECTEN BY ABSENCE
Those aged 18 to 20 Those aged 21 and over
Manual £22.50 £32.90
Non-Manual £17.20 £43.90
Manual and Non-Manual £21.10 £36.00

The estimates are subject to sampling errors. The numbers in the age group 18 to 20 in the sample are relatively small and so estimates for this group are subject to wider margins of error.
