HC Deb 06 February 1974 vol 868 cc329-30W
Sir Clive Bossom

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he can now announce his conclusions on a feasibility study for a new Strensham-Solihull route between the M5 and M42.

Mr. Speed

My right hon. Friend has decided that a new major route between Strensham and Solihull would not at present be justified but that proposals should be prepared for the improvement of existing roads in the area to relieve congestion, particularly in towns such as Evesham and Alcester. Existing plans for the widening of the M5 and for construction of the M42 route should allow most long-distance traffic to be concentrated on to the motorway network Proposals for schemes on the existing roads in the area will be announced in due course.
