HC Deb 06 February 1974 vol 868 c324W
66. Sir T. Beamish

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how many local authorities as well as the borough of Lewes applied too late for parish council status; and if he will give an assurance that the Local Government Boundary Commission will give consideration to any applications it receives from the new district councils under the Local Government Act 1972 before 31st July and announce its recommendations before the end of 1974.

Mr. Graham Page

Four. Under Section 48(8) of the Local Government Act 1972 the new district council will have the duty of considering a request for parish status and, by Section 48 (9), the Boundary Commission will have the duty of considering the district council's report thereon. But I cannot at present forecast the programme of the Boundary Commission's work.
