HC Deb 04 February 1974 vol 868 c217W
Mr. Joel Barnett

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if he will make a statement on the effect of three-day working on the cotton textile industry.

Mr. Anthony Grant

The Government have maintained close contact with the cotton textile industry throughout the period of three-day working and recently-announced changes allowing some Sunday working will be of help to the industry.

At the moment there is no reason to believe that the industry is experiencing any exceptional effects as compared with other industries but the Government will continue to watch the position closely.
