§ Mr. David Mitchellasked the Minister for the Civil Service what representations he has received from Atomic Weapons Research Establishment scientists about their pay and conditions consequent upon the delay in the making of recommendations by the Pay Board on the claim of scientists for equality of payment with 172W administrative and engineering grades; and whether he will give urgent consideration at least to granting them an intermediate award.
§ Mr. Kenneth BakerRepresentations have been received from a number of scientists, including some from AWRE, about their pay generally. The current reference to the pay board concerns the method and criteria for determining scientists' pay and does not relate to any particular claim. Its report is awaited. Meanwhile, scientists are included in the discussions at present taking place with the National Staff Side for pay increases within the stage 3 limits; and separate representations which have been made by the Institution of Professional Civil Servants are being considered.
