Mr. Molloy

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if she will publish in the OFFICIAL REPORT her estimate of the annual expenditure incurred by the National Health Service for the school dental service, the general dental practitioner service, and the dental service in the London teaching hospitals and the North-West Thames Regional Health Authority's hospitals.

The estimated expenditure in 1973–74 was:

General dental services (England) £94 million.

Dental services in London teaching hospitals £2 million.*

Dental services in hospitals, other than teaching hospitals, now in North-West Thames RHA £0.4 million.*

No estimate is yet available of expenditure on the school dental service which was transferred to the NHS on 1st April 1974.

*Includes direct expenditure of dental departments where this is separated in costings but not indirect costs except of specialist dental hospitals.
