HC Deb 19 December 1974 vol 883 c589W
Mr. McCusker

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many trained nurses, citizens of Eire, have been trained at the Basic Nursing Training School attached to Craigavon Area Hospital since its inception; and how many of them are still nursing in Northern Ireland.

Mr. Merlyn Rees

Four nurses from the Republic of Ireland have been trained at the school. No central record of the movement of trained nurses is kept.

Mr. McCusker

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many applicants for basic nursing training from Eire and from Northern Ireland, respectively, have been received by Craigavon Area Hospital Training School; and how many have been successful.

Mr. Moyle

Since the inception of the school in January 1971, 311 applications have been received from the Republic of Ireland, of which 109 were accepted and 82 took up training. The corresponding numbers from Northern Ireland are 1,262, 421 and 264 respectively.
