HC Deb 13 December 1974 vol 883 c273W
Mr. Madden

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what plans there are for major or minor works to the main Halifax-Burnley road; what consultations with interested parties are envisaged; and if he will make a statement on the future of this road to allay local uncertainty.

Mr. Carmichael

The opening of M62 has made this road less important to through traffic between the Lancashire and West Yorkshire conurbations. Local improvements, possibly including short bypasses, may suffice, but my right hon. Friend has no plans at present. If and when he formulates proposals there will be the usual consultations with local authorities and other statutory bodies, and with the public if there are feasible alternatives.
