HC Deb 12 December 1974 vol 883 cc250-1W
Mr. Lipton

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what has been the average percentage rent increase determined or confirmed during the past year in respect of regulated tenancies by rent officers in each of the rent registration areas in each of the Inner London boroughs.

Mr. Kaufman

The average percentage increases in registered rents during 1973, the last full year for which figures are available, for the Inner London boroughs are shown below.

% %
Westminster 18 Southwark 22
Camden 19 Lambeth 20
Islington 18 Wandsworth 18
Hackney 19 Hammersmith 38
Tower Hamlets 12 Kensington-Chelsea 16
Lewisham 21 City of London 33

These figures relate to cases where circumstances at the time of registration were comparable with those in which the previous registered rents were based. In such cases at least three years have passed since the previous registered rent became effective.

The rents analysed are the finally registered rents whether determined by a rent officer or on appeal by a rent assessment committee.
