Mr. Douglas-Mann

asked the Attorney-General if he will make a statement about the circumstances in which a defendant in criminal proceedings may remain anonymous; and whether the prosecution, the defendant and the court must all agree to such anonymity.

The Attorney-General

Subject to statutory provision and the common law, courts have a discretion to regulate their own procedure to the extent required for the proper administration of justice. The manner in which that discretion may be exercised is for the courts to decide.
