HC Deb 06 December 1974 vol 882 c681W
Mr. George Rodgers

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what information she has requested pursuant to Section 19 of the Chronically Sick and Disabled Persons Act 1970; and if she will make a statement.

Mr. Alfred Morris

Section 19 of the Chronically Sick and Disabled Persons Act 1970 was repealed by the National Health Service Reorganisation Act 1973, but information previously requested in accordance with that section shows that local health authorities provided chiropody services for 18,660 disabled persons under age 65 in 1971, for 20,430 in 1972 and for 21,190 in 1973. Similar information continues to be collected. Since 1st April 1974 area health authorities have been responsible for providing chiropody services locally. Priority in the provision of chiropody services is given to the disabled and to the elderly, and also to expectant mothers and children.
