Mr. Mikardo

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what are the numbers of persons, male and female, currently unemployed in the area corresponding as nearly as possible to the London borough of Tower Hamlets; and what are the categories of trades/occupations involved, and the numbers of unemployed persons, male and female, in each trade/occupation.

The numbers of unemployed people registered at employment offices but not those registered at careers offices are analysed by occupation each quarter. The following table shows the most recent figures for the Poplar and Stepney employment offices which cover most of the borough of Tower Hamlets.

Rates of unemployment are calculated for Greater London as a whole but not separately for parts of Greater London.
