HC Deb 04 December 1974 vol 882 cc490-1W
Mr. Newens

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what contact Her Majesty's Government have had with the liberation movements in the territories of Southern Africa; and if he will make a statement.

Miss Joan Lestor

We have had useful informal contacts with some leaders of the independence movements of Angola, Mozambique and Namibia. Ministers have had discussions with representatives during their visits to London. Frelimo is, of course, now part of the Transitional Government in Lourenço Marques where we have a consulate-general. As regards Rhodesia, there has been contact at various levels with members of ZAPU and ZANU.
