HC Deb 04 December 1974 vol 882 c532W
69. Mr. Hunt

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether he will make a statement on the meeting on 19th November between the Minister for Transport and the chairman of London Transport on the problem of hooliganism on the capital's bus and Underground services; and if he will specify any assistance which his Department proposes to give London Transport in its efforts to reduce the present level of assaults upon drivers and conductors in Greater London.

Mr. Mulley

My right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for the Home Department and I had a full and useful discussion with the Chairman and senior officers of London Transport. I am now considering amendments to the appropriate regulations to enable buses to be fitted with alarm devices which would flash the indicator lights and give audible warnings. The Department is also paying grant towards the installation of two-way radio on London Transport buses.
