HC Deb 04 December 1974 vol 882 cc483-4W
Mr. Freud

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he is satisfied that screening of pupils at the end of the primary stage to identify the dyslexic and those with specific reading difficulties is being carried out on a sufficiently wide scale; in what percentage of schools this is an automatic process; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Armstrong

Children are usually screened for a variety of learning disabilities, including reading, at about the end of the infant stage. The report of the Bullock Committee on Reading and the Use of English may offer further guidance on the identification and treatment of children who are backward in reading.
