HC Deb 29 April 1974 vol 872 c375W
Mr. Money

asked the Minister for the Civil Service whether he will take steps to encourage the study of Esperanto by public employees.

Mr. Robert Sheldon

Civil servants are given assistance to learn or improve their knowledge of languages which they need for their official duties. Esperanto is not an official language in any country, and in the absence of any international agreement I see no case for giving assistance to public employees to study it.
