§ Mr. Wigleyasked the Secretary of State for Wales what proportion of the rents paid by local authority tenants in Wales goes to cover interest charges.
60W
§ Mr. John MorrisInterest charges are met from the totality of housing income received by local authorities and it is not possible to attribute a ratio to any one source. For 1973–74 it is estimated that loan charges payable by Welsh housing authorities amounted to about £43 million and other costs to about £12 million. Against this the estimated relevant income was approximately £35 million from rents, £16 million from Government subsidies, £3 million from rate fund contributions, and £1 million from other income.
