HC Deb 04 April 1974 vol 871 cc429-30W
Mr. Moonman

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment when he intends to announce a decision on the Maplin access corridor and new town designation area.

Mr. Crosland

Consultation documents dealing with possible corridors for a motorway and high-speed rail link to Maplin and with tentative new town designation area proposals were published in July 1973. In view of the reappraisal of Maplin which my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Trade has set in hand these documents should, in order to avoid continuing uncertainty and blight, be regarded as rescinded. If, following the reappraisal, a decision were taken to go ahead with Maplin, any necessary consultations would be started afresh.
