HC Deb 03 April 1974 vol 871 c375W
Sir David Renton

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether he will make a statement on the progress so far reached in the feasibility study of the Wash Barrage.

Mr. Denis Howell

This study of the feasibility of water storage in the Wash is being continued by the Central Water Planning Unit. The main topographical surveys and site investigations have been completed and the onshore trial bank built. Tests are proceeding with physical and mathematical models. Hydraulic models are being constructed. The building of the offshore trial bank as originally proposed is to be re-examined later this year. Irrespective of the construction of this bank it is thought that a report on the feasibility of a first reservoir in the Wash might be possible by the end of 1975.
