HC Deb 02 April 1974 vol 871 c340W
Mr. Sillars

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will give a general direction to the South of Scotland Electricity Board to review its present policy in respect of prepayment meters; especially in the light of increased electricity charges.

Mr. William Ross

This is best left to the judgment of the board, which is fully alive to the problems resulting from increased electricity bills. In addition to its savings stamps and monthly payments scheme the board is preparing to introduce more frequent billing. Standing arrangements exist between the board and the social service agencies for dealing with cases of hardship.
