§ Mr. Winterton
asked the Attorney-General if he will list the provisions relating to the granting of legal aid to foreign nationals who are involved in legal proceedings in England and Wales.
There are no such provisions. Legal aid is available to any person, whatever his nationality, who is involved in proceedings in the courts of this country and who meets the statutory and other conditions. Regulation 3 of the Legal Aid (General) Regulations 1971 provides for the way in which an application for legal aid under the Legal Aid and Advice Act 1949 should be made by a person resident abroad.
