HC Deb 01 April 1974 vol 871 cc255-6W
44. Mr. Peter Mills

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will make a statement on the role of home food production and the part it can play in safeguarding the interests of the housewife and consumer.

Mr. Moyle

As my right hon. Friend said in his speech on the Address, it is in the national interest to reduce our dependence on imported food by the encouragement of an expansion of British agriculture where that can be achieved efficiently and economically. This will be in the interests of the consumer as well as of the economy generally.
