HC Deb 25 October 1973 vol 861 cc647-8W
Miss Quennell

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether he will ensure that successor councils will be able to keep property held for the purpose of powers which are concurrent with district council powers by the provision for settlement of disputes between such councils by arbitration.

Mr. Graham Page

My right hon. and learned Friend has no present proposals to extend the general machinery for the settlement of disputes to be provided in the Property, etc., Order—shortly to be laid before Parliament—to cases where a successor parish council wishes to claim property which in the normal course would be transferred to the district council in default of agreement to the contrary. I am, however, receiving a deputation from the National Association of Local Councils on 30th October about the transfer of property, and any views which it may wish to express will of course be carefully considered.
