Mr. Meacher

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer how many stock options have been exercised since the proposals in the Finance Bill 1972 came into effect, and what has been the gain to those exercising them.

Mr. Nott,

pursuant to his reply—[OFFICIAL REPORT, 24th October, 1973] —gave the following information:

No option under approved schemes governed by the provision of the Finance Act 1972 are so far known to have been exercised. Gains from other schemes are taxed as income, but information relating to such schemes is not collected centrally.

The granting of options is now subject to the pay code
