HC Deb 25 October 1973 vol 861 cc582-3W
Mr. Kilfedder

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if he will make a statement on his future proposals for the replacement of Her Majesty's Prison, Maze, Lisburn, as a matter of urgency.

Mr. van Straubenzee

Plans are being drawn up for a new prison, but it is too soon to say when it will be ready for use or to what extent it will replace the Maze.

Mr. Kilfedder

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland whether he will immediately make arrangements to reduce the length of time that visitors have to wait to see loyalist prisoners at Her Majesty's Prison, Maze, Lisburn.

Mr. van Straubenzee

Every effort is made to reduce to a minimum waiting time for visitors. One of the difficulties is that most visitors tend to arrive at the prison at the same time.
