HC Deb 25 October 1973 vol 861 c575W
Mr. Milne

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will make an examination of the duties performed by station officers in the field of fire prevention and introduce legislation to enable them to spend more time on this aspect of their work.

Mr. Lane

Legislation is not required for this purpose. It is for the fire authority to decide how to employ members of fire brigades; but on the advice of the Central Fire Brigades Advisory Council my right hon. Friend recently sent detailed guidance to fire authorities on the use of operational firemen on fire prevention duties.
