HC Deb 25 October 1973 vol 861 c699W
Mr. Russell Johnston

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if the Government will seek to extend more favourable trading terms to non-EEC associate countries by the extension of the general scheme of preference to a larger range of goods and by the negotiation in the forthcoming GATT rounds of reduction in the most-favoured-nation rates of duty on products of particular export interest to developing countries.

Sir G. Howe

Work is currently in progress within the Community on improvements to be effected to its generalised preference scheme for 1974 in the light of the directive of the summit conference of European Heads of State. In the forthcoming multilateral trade negotiations, the Community will have as a specific aim further improvements in its generalised preference scheme as well as other measures for promoting the interests of developing countries.
