HL Deb 23 October 1973 vol 345 c619WA
LORD BARNBY

asked Her Majesty's Government:

With regard to the recent Report of the Select Committee on Race Relations which has disclosed such disquieting irregularities in official statistics, what proposals they have for achieving a more authentic presentation of the number respectively of white and nonwhite children in primary and more advanced State Schools.

THE PARLIAMENTARY UNDERSECRETARY OF STATE, DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION AND SCIENCE (LORD SANDFORD)

Her Majesty's Government has no proposals to collect statistics of school children according to their colour but will be replying in due course to the recommendations made by the Select Committee. The statistics criticised by the Select Committee are concerned with immigrant pupils as defined for educational purposes. There have been no irregularities.
