HL Deb 23 October 1973 vol 345 cc619-20WA
LORD O'HAGAN

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they still intend to set up a Working Party to study packaging materials and design.

BARONESS YOUNG

The development of the packaging industry and the response of designers to changes in consumer attitudes and requirements are matters which need to be considered in the wider context of resource conservation and recycling possibilities, as well as with regard to the impact of discarded packaging on our refuse collection and disposal system and litter prevention measures. There will be an opportunity of reviewing the case for a further study when the final reports of working groups set up by the Plastics Institute and the Glass Manufacturers' Federation are published later this year. A report by the working group set up by the British Tin Box Manufacturers' Federation was published in August this year.
