§ Mr. Deakinsasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science why she has decided that the North-East London Polytechnic should no longer operate in Waltham Forest.
§ Mrs. ThatcherOn educational and economic grounds I have inivited the joint education committee for the polytechnic to reconsider the proposals contained in its development plan in order to take account of the needs of the Waltham Forest Technical College which is at present working under difficulties in a number of inadequate buildings. The withdrawal of the polytechnic from Waltham Forest would release accommodation for use by the technical college and reduce from three to two the number of main sites on which the polytechnic now operates. The timing of the withdrawal depends on the provision of alternative accommodation for the polytechnic.
