HC Deb 08 November 1973 vol 863 cc234-5W
Mr. Greville Janner

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether she will issue a circular requesting that children in the lower classes of nursery and infant schools be warned of the dangers of poisoning by aspirins.

Mrs. Thatcher

No. This danger lies mainly in the home and is a matter of parental responsibility. Nevertheless the "Handbook of Health Education" issued by my Department contains advice for teachers about informing pupils of the dangers of pills and drugs and of the importance of keeping poisons, disinfectants and drugs in their proper places in the home. The pamphlet "Drugs and the Schools" issued last year by my Department emphasises the importance of sensible drug education beginning in the infant school. Both of these publications are available in the Library.
