§ Dame Joan Vickersasked the Secretary of State for Employment if he has designated the training centre in Stone-house, Plymouth, as a centre for training blind persons from various regions in Great Britain; whether the city of Plymouth has to provide accommodation and work for the trainees; and, if not, what action is being taken by his Department to find them jobs and accommodation when they have completed their training.
§ Mr. Dudley SmithThe Stonehouse Street sheltered workshop for blind people has this year, with the help of my Department, recruited for training a small number of blind people from other parts of the country on the understanding that they will be given jobs in the workshop when their training is completed. My Department has helped the workshop management to find accommodation for the people concerned and is paying them lodging allowances. My Department will continue to co-operate with the workshop management in helping, in every way possible, any who wish to find alternative accommodation when their training finishes.
