Mr. Deakins

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what has been the percentage change in the number of private homes completed in 1972 as compared with 1966.

Mr. Channon

New private sector dwellings completed in Great Britain during 1972 were 4 per cent. fewer than during 1966. Improvement grants approved for private dwellings were 283 per cent. greater in number.

New local authority, including new town, dwellings completed in Great Britain during 1972 were 33 per cent. fewer than during 1966. Improvement grants approved were 306 per cent. greater in number.
