§ Mr. Greville Jannerasked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry how many travel agents or tour operators were prosecuted under the Trade Descriptions Act in each of the last 24 months for which records are available; in how many of such cases the defendants pleaded guilty; in how many and in what proportion of cases the defendants pleaded guilty and not guilty, respectively; and in how many and in what proportion of cases in which the plea was not guilty the defendant was acquitted.
§ Sir G. Howe69 such prosecutions were notified to me by local weights and measures authorities during the two years ending 31st August 1973; 56 of those prosecutions resulted in a conviction. More detailed information is not readily available and could not be obtained without disproportionate cost.
