§ Mr. Deakinsasked the Minister of Argiculture, Fisheries and Food what is the attitude of Her Majesty's Government to the proposed Council directive on the approximation of laws relating to fertilisers.
§ Mrs. FennerThe proposed directive is part of the programme for the removal14W of technical barriers to trade which Her Majesty's Government supports. Its purpose is to establish Community standards, descriptions and labelling requirements for "EEC-type "inorganic fertilisers which could then be freely traded within the Community. Member States would be able to maintain their domestic laws for all other fertilisers. The draft standards would involve some changes from existing United Kingdom law and practice which will need to be taken fully into account when it is further considered. Discussions are taking place with United Kingdom interested organisations.
