HL Deb 29 March 1973 vol 340 c1334WA
LORD STRABOLGI

asked Her Majesty's Government, whether the first £5,000 of an artist's or craftsman's work is free of V.A.T.

THE PAYMASTER GENERAL (VISCOUNT ECCLES)

I regret that in the debate on March 15, at col. 514 of the OFFICIAL REPORT, I said that the first £5,000 of work sold by artists would be free of V.A.T. Unfortunately this is not so: once their sales top £5,000 they pay V.A.T. on the whole of their output.

House adjourned at thirteen minutes past ten o'clock.
