HL Deb 20 March 1973 vol 340 c719WA
LORD WAKEFIELD OF KENDAL

asked Her Majesty's Government what arrangements have been made for the 91,000 people residing in the No. 5 Area of Cumbria to have the full Medical Consultancy Services that are available in nearby Lancaster particularly in cases of emergency.

THE MINISTER OF STATE, DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND SOCIAL SECURITY (LORD ABERDARE)

The boundaries of the proposed Area Health Authorities will not act as a barrier to patients continuing to use hospital and other patient care services as at present. Special management arrangements will be made by the Regional and Area Health Authorities concerned to ensure that patients residing in the Southern parts of Cumbria. for example Kendal, may continue to be served by the facilities provided by the non-metropolitan county of Lancashire in, for example, Lancaster.
