A laboratory and plant are now being designed and will be built there in 1974 for the conservation of the Graveney Boat and other finds, using the most modern techniques. The museum's archaeological and scientific work on ancient boat finds will be developed as rapidly as possible. So far as contents are concerned, the national museums and galleries have increasing resources to acquire and conserve objects within their fields whether recovered from the sea or otherwise. Local museums are the responsibility of local government or other authorities. Assistance for conservation can in some cases be obtained through the Area Museums Service.
