§ Mr. Skeetasked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if he will make a statement upon the export of steel scrap and the relation to the United Kingdom in this connection of the European treaties.
§ Mr. EmeryThe Common Market has no restrictions on the free movement of scrap between its members, but Article 43 of the Treaty of Accession allows the United Kingdom to retain quantitative restrictions on exports of ferrous scrap to Community destinations for a maximum of two years. At present, all ferrous scrap exports from the United 13W Kingdom are banned except for inferior grades which comprise less than 10 per cent. of all purchased iron and steel scrap.
